Prior to the war, Wicher spent the majority of time serving in a political capacity, carrying various dignitaries and visiting several cities. After warding off an attack from Leberecht Maass while wounded, she was destroyed at harbor by an air raid. Her surviving crew went on to the defense of Pomerania.
